Our 20th Anniversary Trip to Sandals Dunn's River Jamaica
After 20 years of marriage, my husband and I finally took the honeymoon we never had. We chose Sandals Dunn’s River in Jamaica to celebrate our anniversary, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like we had pressed pause on everyday life and stepped into something special.
Arriving in Jamaica
After arriving in Jamaica, Club Mobay helped make the airport experience smooth and stress-free. From there, we settled in for the scenic drive to Ocho Rios, taking in the lush greenery, tropical flowers, and stunning ocean views along the way. The beauty of the island immediately captured our attention, although I have to admit the driving style took a little getting used to! Between the winding roads and driving on the left side, there were a few moments when I was holding on a little tighter than usual.
Our Favorite Moments
Our days quickly settled into a relaxing rhythm. Mornings began with ocean views, breakfast, and my favorite ritual of all, sipping hot tea while watching the waves roll in. One of the highlights of our trip was a romantic dinner on the beach. Before dinner, we enjoyed a photo session that made the evening feel even more special. Between the setting, the food, and the chance to slow down and enjoy each other’s company, it became one of my favorite memories from the trip.
What We Loved About Sandals Dunn's River
What stood out most about Sandals Dunn’s River was the people. Every staff member we encountered was kind, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable. The food was another highlight, especially the gluten-free shrimp pasta at Cascata, the resort’s Italian restaurant. As someone with Celiac Disease, I find it challenging to find delicious and safe dining options, so I truly appreciated the care the staff took with my dietary needs. We also spent plenty of time enjoying the pools and relaxing by the ocean, which quickly became my favorite spot on the property. Our room was comfortable and spacious, and while the view wasn’t our favorite part of the resort, we spent so little time there that it hardly mattered.
What I'll Remember Most
More than anything, I treasured the uninterrupted time together. As much as we love our kids, it was nice to step away from our everyday responsibilities, work schedules, and endless to-do lists. We laughed, talked, relaxed, and simply enjoyed being together. After 20 years of marriage, and finally taking the honeymoon we never had, this trip reminded us how important it is to make time to reconnect and create new memories together.
Looking Back
Years from now, I probably won’t remember every meal or every detail of our stay. What I will remember is sitting beside my husband, listening to the waves, watching the sunset, and feeling grateful. Grateful for 20 years of memories behind us, and excited for all the adventures still ahead. We loved Sandals Dunn’s River. It was the perfect place to celebrate where we’ve been and dream about where we’re going.
