What to Pack for a Caribbean Adventure: A Simple Packing Guide
One of the questions I hear most often is, “What should I pack for the Caribbean?” It’s a great question because the answer is about more than swimsuits and flip-flops…
Before our recent trip to Sandals Dunn’s River in Jamaica to celebrate our 20th anniversary, I found myself asking that same question. After spending a week in the Caribbean, I came home with a few reminders about the items that made our trip easier, more comfortable, and even more enjoyable. I hope they’ll help you pack with confidence for your own tropical getaway.
Packing isn’t about bringing more. It’s about bringing the right things so you can spend less time worrying and more time making memories.

- Passport
- Travel documents

- Waterproof phone pouch
- Portable charger
- Small first-aid kit
Three Things I Was Glad I Packed
- Aloe Vera
Even with sunscreen, we still got a little pink in a few spots after spending so much time enjoying the Caribbean sunshine. Thankfully, I packed aloe vera, and it provided immediate relief. Hopefully you won’t need it, but it’s one of those items you’ll be glad you brought if you do. - More Than One Swimsuit
I think I own more swimsuits now than I ever have in my life, and I was glad for this trip! Having a few to rotate between meant I always had a dry swimsuit ready for the next pool day, beach walk, or ocean swim. - A Couple of Nice Dresses
Most evenings at the resort called for resort evening attire, and I loved having a couple of dresses that made me feel comfortable and put together. They were perfect for dinner, especially our romantic beach dinner celebrating our 20th anniversary.
Three Things I Didn't Need
- Too Many Dressy Outfits
I packed more dressy clothes than I ended up wearing. A couple of nice outfits were plenty for dinners and special evenings. The rest stayed neatly folded in my suitcase. - Extra Shoes
I always struggle with deciding which shoes to bring, but I definitely packed more than I needed. Between my sandals, water shoes, and one nicer pair for dinner, I was covered for the entire trip. - Too Many Books
I had every intention of reading several books while relaxing by the pool and beach. In reality, I spent more time enjoying the scenery, talking with my husband, and simply being present. I only made it through part of one book, and I wouldn’t have changed that for anything.
My Favorite Packing Tip
My favorite packing tip is simple: lay everything out, then remove about a third of it. Most travelers pack far more than they actually need, especially for a Caribbean vacation where swimsuits, lightweight clothing, and comfortable footwear are the stars of the show.
Packing well won’t make your vacation perfect, but it will make it easier. The less time you spend worrying about what you forgot, the more time you can spend soaking up the sunshine, exploring a new destination, and making memories with the people you love.
Whether you’re heading to Jamaica, the Bahamas, or another beautiful Caribbean destination, I hope this simple packing guide helps you feel prepared and excited for your adventure. After all, the best souvenirs aren’t the things you bring home. They’re the moments you’ll be talking about for years to come.
